Since last year’s Championship defeat, this year’s focus has been on strengthening the team and preparing to head back to the Championships to claim the title. The Royals had spent the entire season preparing for the moment, and they were in the prime spot to take it.
What a season it’s been for the Royal softball team. This week, they finished the regular season with the best record in the entirety of NWAC and the history of the program, becoming the first team in four years to finish the season undefeated.
The Royals softball team has been on a tear of the NWAC North region this season. This weekend, Highline Community College and Edmonds Community College looked to put a stop to that. Highline were first in line for the Royals.
After a strong weekend showing against Everett last week, the Royals softball team was ready to prove to the league once again that the ladies from the North were a team to watch out for. They came into the weekend riding a four game win streak and were undefeated on the season so far. Waiting for them was Shoreline Community College.
Home opening weekend is special for every team in their own way. After having their initial home opener cancelled due to turbulent weather, the Royals softball team hosted Everett Community College on Saturday in the team’s first home games of the year. Keeley Ainge got the start for the Royals and it was like the team that played at Softball City last year never left. Ainge pitched out of her body and mind. Her 135 pitches struck out 9 batters, closing out 3 of 7 innings on her own.
It was the start of dreams for the Royals Softball team last weekend as they brushed past the Bellevue Bulldogs. This weekend, the team will be hosting their first home games of the season. Visiting them will be Everett Community College and Pierce Community College.
For nearly half of the returning Royals’ softball team, the memories of last year’s Championship run still burns fresh in their mind. What burns hotter is the sting of falling just short of the title. For the rookies and fresh faces, the passion to prove themselves is more than evident, and they have some great role models to show them the way.
