The Douglas College Royals Women's Soccer team's tired legs finally caught up with them, as the Royals lost the PACWEST gold medal game to the defending champions VIU Mariners.
Douglas had to play 30 minutes of extra time and penalties to advance, squeaking out an exhilarating 4-3 win to get to this stage, while the Mariners got an automatic bye to the final by finishing first in the regular season. VIU scored two goals in the driving rain in the first half, and held that lead to win 2-0. The best chance of the second half came from 5th-year forward and PACWEST All-Star Isabelle Dobbin, who's chance on the counterattack went just wide.
Dobbin was named the tournament's Top Forward. The Royals improved on last year's finish, advancing to the gold medal game after falling on penalties in the semi-final in 2024.
